A recent trip to California’s Yosemite National Park found Ansel Adams’ most famous places of inspiration shrouded in a dense fog that only got thicker the further up I went. Upon arriving at Glacier Point, home of one of the most iconic views in entire place, I found that there was a wall of white and gray separating me from a view of Half Dome, Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls. However, the fog was fast-moving with a few breaks here and there and at one point happened to break in a circular pattern right around Nevada Falls.

While I shot this photograph in full color, there was barely anything but grays and whites in the image so I used Photoshop to convert it to a traditional Black & White. At first I was more than a bit irritated at the weather conditions that prevented me from getting more traditional “blue sky” photos of Yosemite, but now looking back at my captures from that weekend I could not be happier with the moody and unique shots.
If you haven’t been to Yosemite National Park before, I highly recommend grabbing the kiddies and making it one of those really special holidays for all the family. And if you really want a challenge, try hiking up to the top of Half Dome…but be sure to get your permit way in advance!
