Much of my recent work in Photoshop has involved quick auto-leveling. However, this photo of the Arbol de Navidad in the Canyon de Sumidero in the Chiapas region of Mexico was in such rough shape, it required a major overhaul. First I cropped out all the unnecessary extra parts to ensure that the actual "Christmas tree" part was the main subject. Then I adjusted color balances, levels, contrast, brightness and more to bring out the true beauty of the arbol.

My most extensive alteration to date, this shot was taken at the World War II memorial, facing the Lincoln Monument in Washington, DC. Every aspect of this photo has been tinkered with. In addition to bringing out the colors of the water, Lincoln Monument and surrounding trees, all people in the photo have been removed and the gray and cloudy day has become a vicious nighttime lightning storm.

I liked the idea behind the original version of this photo, which was taken from inside the Jefferson Memorial, but it needed a little touching-up. In the original, the columns are too dark and the background on the right and left sides of the columns is distracting. Additionally, I found it impossible to take a shot where there were no random tourists in the picture. So after some work with Photoshop, the columns have been lightened, the pedestrians and construction cones have been removed and the photo has been cropped to make it a much tighter picture.

Taken on a cloudy day on Teddy Roosevelt Island in Virginia, this shot of the Lincoln Monument is taken through the 14th Street Bridge. Note that in the original the colors are completely washed out and bland. The altered version draws out the blues of the sky, the greens of the trees and the white of the monument for the "sunny day" effect.

To this day I'm not sure what species these birds are, but I saw them by a fountain at the Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria. The alteration on this photo was simple, yet effective. All color was removed from the photo except for that of the birds.
