Everywhere Carrie and I went in Sri Lanka we were greeted by smiles and cries of “hello!” The locals seemed genuinely excited to see us, as if they had only encountered a handful of foreigners in their lives. While I doubt this to be true, there are still few enough tourists in the country that we are a novelty. People were especially surprised and fascinated when we say that we are from the USA. While the country sees many Europeans, Americans are few and far between. Everyone wanted to talk about Obama and know how we liked Sri Lanka so far.
