I write about Varkala simply because it was a destination for us, not because we enjoyed our one night there. Best known for its red cliffs overlooking the ocean, we were appauled to find they were covered in garbage. The beach was crowded and unimpressive and we only spent about 30 minutes watching the sunset before deciding we were done with it.
After dusk we walked down the main tourist strip overlooking the ocean found a nice looking resturant with a live band. This led to possibly the worst meal in India, as I ordered a burrito that had tomato sauce and olives on it, but no cheese…I guess my first mistake was ordering a burrito in India. The live band couldn’t hold a note to save their lives and we were never happier to get the heck out of there early the next morning. Still, I guess it’s all a matter of where you stay and what you do, because we have since met people who spent days and weeks there, saw tons of amazing things and had a blast.
